Oasis Academy Putney shut on 31 August with 112 pupils in a 420-place school. Where records went, who to contact, and how many borough primaries have room.

Oasis Academy Putney has closed. The academy trust that ran it states plainly on the school’s own web address: “Oasis Academy Putney closed on 31 August 2026 and is no longer in operation.” (Oasis Community Learning)

The primary school stood at 184 Lower Richmond Road, SW15 1LY, and took children aged 4 to 11. It opened on 1 September 2016. It closed with 112 pupils in a school built for 420, according to the Department for Education’s register of schools, which last confirmed that figure on 1 July 2026. Oasis Community Learning gives no reason for the closure on that page. We could not find a published statement from the trust or the Department for Education today setting out why the decision was taken, and we are not going to repeat a reason we cannot source.

What parents need to do

The trust has published three routes, and they are different depending on what you need:

  • General enquiries about the closure: queries.putney@oasisuk.org
  • Requests relating to former pupil records: safeguarding@oasisuk.org. The trust says all pupil safeguarding records have been transferred and retained in line with statutory requirements.
  • Concerns about a child’s welfare: Wandsworth’s Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub, mash@wandsworth.gov.uk or 020 8871 6622. If a child is at immediate risk, call 999.

One thing to be aware of if you go looking. Wandsworth Council’s own list of primary schools still carries a page for Oasis Academy Putney, with a phone number and a headteacher, and that page has not been updated since 4 September 2024. (Wandsworth Council) The DfE register also still shows the school as “Open” with the close date “Not recorded”. Neither means the school is running. Both registers lag.

The school was never full

The council’s own admissions records show the shape of the problem long before this year.

Oasis Academy Putney had a published admission number of 30 for reception in each of 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. In every one of those four years, the council’s record reads the same: “All applicants offered a place or a higher preference under coordinated admission arrangements.” In other words, it never had to turn anyone away, and it never filled. For September 2026 the school does not appear in the council’s allocation document at all.

More than half of Wandsworth’s primaries had room this year

This is not one school’s problem. We counted every entry in the council’s own record of how reception places were offered on national offer day, 16 April 2026.

Of the 56 Wandsworth primary schools listed, 30 offered a place or a higher preference to every single applicant. Only 26 had to fall back on distance or another oversubscription criterion to decide who got in. (How places were allocated for primary schools 2026, PDF)

The 26 that had to apply an oversubscription criterion include Allfarthing, Beatrix Potter, Belleville, Belleville Wix, Brandlehow, Chesterton, Earlsfield, Fircroft, Floreat Wandsworth, Franciscan, Gatton, Holy Ghost, Honeywell Infant, Hotham, Our Lady of Victories, Our Lady Queen of Heaven, Penwortham, Ravenstone, Ronald Ross, Rutherford House, St Anselm’s, St Faith’s, St Mary’s CE (Putney), St Michael’s, Sheringdale and Smallwood.

The 30 that took everyone who applied include Albemarle, Alderbrook, All Saints CE, Ark John Archer, Falconbrook, Furzedown, Granard, Griffin, Heathmere, Hillbrook, John Burns, Riversdale, Roehampton Church Forest School, Sellincourt, Shaftesbury Park, Southmead, Swaffield, The Alton, Tooting Primary, West Hill and Westbridge Academy.

What it means for you

If your child was at Oasis Academy Putney, use queries.putney@oasisuk.org for anything to do with the closure, and safeguarding@oasisuk.org for records. Do not rely on the phone number still shown on the council’s school page.

If you are applying for a reception place for September 2027, the wider picture is useful. On the council’s own 2026 figures, more than half of Wandsworth’s primary schools took everyone who applied. Check the individual school’s entry in the allocation document rather than assuming a scramble. That document covers one year only, so read the previous years’ version alongside it before drawing a conclusion about any one school.

If you live near Lower Richmond Road, no future use for the building has been announced by the trust or the council. We could not query Wandsworth’s planning register today, so we cannot say whether an application has been lodged, and we will check again. Lower Richmond Road is also at the centre of the council’s current Putney traffic changes.
