Wandsworth Train Times to London: 7 Mins to Victoria

Wandsworth is not a commuter town, so the usual question of how long the train takes and what an annual season ticket costs does not quite fit. The borough sits in travel zones 1 to 3 with sixteen stations inside its boundary, and almost everyone pays as they go, capped daily and weekly, rather than buying a season ticket to a single terminus.

What varies here is not the price so much as which terminus you get and how long it takes to reach it. Battersea Park is four minutes from Victoria. Southfields is twenty-two. Every station, timed

Journey times below are the fastest option returned by TfL’s journey planner for a weekday 08:00 departure, and are train time between stations rather than door to door. Zones are from TfL’s station records.

Two things stand out. The northern edge of the borough is genuinely fast, with five stations inside twelve minutes of a terminus, while the south and west are not: Tooting Broadway to Bank is twenty-four minutes on a stopping Northern line service, and Southfields to Victoria is twenty-two on the District. Second, the borough’s stations point at four different bits of London, Waterloo, Victoria, Bank and the Thameslink core, so where you work matters more here than how far out you live.

Which terminus you get

• Waterloo is served by South Western Railway from Clapham Junction, Queenstown Road, Wandsworth Town, Earlsfield and Putney, and by the Northern line from Nine Elms, Battersea Power Station and Tooting Bec. It is the fastest option for most of the borough.
• Victoria is served by Southern from Battersea Park, Clapham Junction, Wandsworth Common and Balham, and reachable on the District line from East Putney and Southfields.
• The City is a Northern line job. Balham, Clapham South, Tooting Bec and Tooting Broadway all run direct to Bank, and Battersea Power Station reaches it in sixteen minutes with a change at Kennington.
• Blackfriars and St Pancras are Tooting station’s speciality, on Thameslink, which is the one service in the borough that crosses London rather than terminating in it.

Clapham Junction is the borough’s interchange, in zone 2, with both Southern and South Western Railway services and platforms for both Victoria and Waterloo. If you live anywhere between Battersea Rise and Wandsworth Common, it is almost certainly your station, and it is the reason Northcote ward carries the borough’s highest house prices.

Roehampton has no railway station. Its residents use buses to Barnes, Putney or Hammersmith, and that single fact shows up in the ward’s sold prices.

What it costs

Pay as you go singles are the everyday fare, and they are flatter across the borough than journey times suggest. These are TfL adult PAYG fares, valid from 4 July 2026.

Peak means Monday to Friday, 06:30 to 09:30, on the outbound leg. Everything else, including public holidays, is off-peak.

The gap between a zone 1-2 and a zone 1-3 annual Travelcard is £312 a year, which is the real price difference between commuting from Wandsworth Town and commuting from Earlsfield. It is small enough that most people choose on journey time instead, and large enough to be worth knowing before you sign a tenancy.

Two stations sit on a zone boundary. Putney, East Putney and Clapham South are listed as 2+3, meaning they count as whichever zone makes your journey work, so a zone 1-2 Travelcard is valid from them. That is a genuine saving of £312 a year over Southfields or Earlsfield next door.

If you are choosing where to live in the borough, the honest split is that the stretch from Battersea to Wandsworth Town buys you a twelve-minute commute and zone 2 fares, and Tooting, Southfields and Furzedown buy you twenty-plus minutes and zone 3.
