Remembrance Sunday is Sunday 8 November 2026, and Armistice Day falls on Wednesday 11 November. Wandsworth Council has marked both in the same way for at least the last two years: three Sunday services at parish churches in Battersea, Putney and Tooting, then an Armistice Day ceremony at the war memorial in Battersea Park. It announces the details only a few days before.

The quick answer

Sunday 8 November: expect services at St Mary’s Battersea, St Mary’s Putney and St Nicholas Tooting, starting 10.45am, with a two-minute silence at 11am. Wednesday 11 November: the Armistice Day service at the 24th Division memorial in Battersea Park, also from 10.45am. These follow the 2024 and 2025 pattern; the council has not yet confirmed 2026, and last year it published on 7 November.

“All services start at 10.45am,” the council said. Local dignitaries and ex-servicemen and women lay wreaths at their war memorials beforehand, and the two-minute silence is at 11am.

The year before was the same shape. The council’s release of 7 November 2024 listed Sunday services at St Mary’s Church in Battersea Church Road, St Mary’s Church on Putney High Street, and St Nicholas Church, Church Lane, Tooting, and the Battersea Park service at 11am on Monday 11 November, “commencing at 10.45am”.

The Battersea Park memorial

The Armistice Day service is held at the park’s war memorial to the 24th (London) Division, at the junction of Central Avenue and East Carriage Drive. It is Portland stone, and the council says it was made by the war artist and sculptor Eric Kennington, who served as a private in the Division’s 13th London Regiment in Flanders and France before being wounded and sent home in June 1915. The council said in 2025 that the memorial had recently been renovated.

The service is open to the public; the 2024 release said it would be attended by “representatives of service organisations, other local dignitaries and private mourners”.

The Battersea Park fireworks are the night before, Saturday 7 November, and again on Sunday 8 November, so expect the park to be busy that weekend.
